3/04/19 Cambridge Cay

Monday, 3/04/19

The day dawned bright & sunny so it made for a delightful 15 mile trip to Cambridge Cay which is in a protected area. It supposedly has some nice snorkeling and caves - - we'll see!

The final leg of the journey was a bit of a white knuckler as the water became quite shallow - - 2 ft. under the keel! We radioed another boater who confirmed that he had made it into the mooring field but that we would need to proceed with caution.

Fortunately, the sun was out and we were able to read the water OK. We were able to stay in the narrow channel that paralleled this sand bar.
We picked up a mooring ball (with a little effort) and once Samba was happy, we loaded the dinghy and prepared for our excursion to parts unknown.

We sort of knew where we wanted to go, but had no idea what to expect.

After a 20 minute dinghy ride, we circled our target island  and didn't find much to see so we headed to the next island. There were some small dinghy mooring balls there so we knew we were in the right place.

What we didn't expect was that the cave we were looking for was under water! We thought it was on the island.

Fortunately, we had our snorkeling gear so in we went!

Imagine our surprise when we discovered there were 2 caves that were really quite beautiful!

After our little spelunking adventure, we headed to another area known as the aquarium. We were't exactly sure where to go so we asked some other boaters and got an approximate location.

This was probably 45 minutes by dinghy from the caves.

Near the aquarium was a sunken plane which was pretty kewl!

After a busy day on the water, the sunset was fun to watch from the back of the boat. What a glorious place this is!
