Wednesday, 3/06/19 Little Farmer's Cay

All week, our weather forecaster had been predicting a big front to move through on Wednesday. Sure enough, as we got up that morning, the leading edge of the front was perched almost directly over us. Ughhh.

Though it wasn’t supposed to be rainy, it was bringing in wind – lots of it. 20 to 30 knots for the next week. Fortunately,it would be at our backs as we made the 30 mile trip to our next destination, Little Farmer’s Cay.
Notice we were pretty bundled up!
We could tell, just by the waves on this rocky shoreline, that things were a bit more peppy than yesterday!

Though pretty expensive, we decided to tie up to the little marina near town to better protect ourselves from the high winds & stiff current in this place. This is a shot of Samba through the trees - - all by herself.

Little Farmer’s Cay is a sleepy little, quintessential Bahamian village. It has a small harbor for the supply ship to dock at and that's pretty much it!

The grocery store manager was having a good time with his buddy while we were in looking around.

As you can see, the store wasn't particularly well stocked!

Every place you might want to visit in town was noted on their only street sign.

Fortunately, we didn’t need to mail anything. The tiny post office was locked up pretty tight.

Just about every small Bahamian village has a conch shell graveyard. Conch tends to be the staple in the Bahamas & they always just pitch the shells in the pile.

J.R. is one of the town’s famous entrepreneurs because he sells his woodcarvings in Nassau. Lucky for   us, he was willing to sell Sheila one of his carvings at “wholesale” price and even signed it for her.

We were running low on dinghy fuel so Mr. Nixon, the marina owner, had his son find us a couple of gallons.
Since there are no gas stations on the island, he found someone with a little extra gas & brought it to us in milk jugs.

Though the marina had WIFI, it was realllly weak. The only way to log onto it was to go up to the office.

While Jim worked on the blog, Greg checked email.

Because the weather was so windy, we decided to spend another day here.

Tomorrow we'll check out the friendly turtles & take an expedition to a very special cave.
