Wow. Within 24 hours, the Bahamas has taken a very aggressive stance toward the Covid Virus here. As of 9:00 today, 3/20/20, they have closed all schools, restaurants, marinas, AND inter-island travel throughout all 700 of the Bahamas islands. This is to be effective for at least 2 weeks and maybe more.
To our knowledge, there has only been 1 case of the virus and that was from one of the large hotels in Nassau. This is quite a step for a country that is totally dependent on tourist income.
This morning, even before we had heard about all of this, I felt a nudge to fill up Samba at the nearby fuel dock. Right after we had finished filling up, we were in the office to pay and they notified us that we were the last boat that would be allowed to come to the dock to get fuel! She then got on the radio and announced to the whole anchorage that they would not be able to accommodate any other boats.
Thank you Lord for encouraging us to go first thing.
Interestingly, we also just heard that many of the US marinas are now closing and not allowing any transient boaters in which effectively stops all boat traffic and movement. That means we wouldn't be able to get the boat back to the states even if we wanted to. Hmmmm.
I guess we'll wait this one out!
