Current Cut to Governor's Harbour

Friday was a pretty slow day for us. After we visited the cut by dinghy to ascertain timing for our travel through it on Saturday, we relaxed - woo hoo.

Saturday, we had determined that the optimal time to traverse the cut would be 10:50. We actually entered it at 10:45 and saw maybe 1 knot of current. Yay!

Several sailboats went through ahead of us to take advantage of the slower but positive current and there was a sport fisher who followed us through.
Notice the big change in the depth near the Current Settlement.

Once safely through we put out both poles and trolled. We caught two 3 to 4 foot barracudas which we promptly returned to the sea and then we quit. Ughhh.

Governor's Harbour is a beautiful, protected, quintessential Bahamian village and is the capital of Eleuthera.

Saturday after arriving, we went into the village to get gas for the dinghy and a few odds and ends from the grocery store. Then, in the evening, went back in and had a delightful dinner at the Buccaneer Club.

Sunday morning first thing, this gentleman was preaching from the docks with loud speakers on top of his truck. The audience - - the boats in the harbor. Pretty kewl and his message was excellent.
Near the end of his message, this large supply ship came in and docked right next to him.

Mid morning, we headed back to town to check out the beach on the other side of the island.
The tide was up so Jim had to put a stern anchor out on the dinghy to keep it from beating itself up on the rocks.

Here are a couple of shots of downtown.
Norma's Gift Shop

The grocery store & gas station

And the police department.

This little convenience store had one of the nicest murals we've ever seen!

There were no signs to the beach so we just kind of followed our instincts and went east.

Stay tuned for some fabulous shots of their amazing pink sand beach!
Blessings,
Jim & Carol
