New Years Eve on Spanish Wells

After spending a few weeks at home in Indiana for Christmas, we returned to Spanish Wells in time to celebrate New Year's Eve with our good friends, Barb & John Gauger, who flew in to spend a week island hopping with us.

Our marina at Spanish Wells is small, but very protected and was a good place to leave Samba while we went home.

Gaugers arrived Friday afternoon via a water taxi from North Eleuthera.

Spanish Wells is a fairly small island with golf carts being the predominant mode of transportation.

New Years Eve dawned bright and clear. A great indication of things to come during this fun week!

Saturday morning, we took our cart to the beach which was at the end of the little 1.25 mile long island.
We walked for over 2 hours on this amazing beach. For most of that time we were the only people on the beach.
We got back to Samba just in time to mix up a quick batch of ceviche' so it could be cooking through the afternoon. Then we headed to the Shipyard restaurant for a bite of lunch.
It's funny how people here go all out to decorate for Christmas. This home sort of overdid it, though! This is just a part of their decorations. Wow!
Since our New Year's Eve reservations weren't until 9:00, we had an early evening snack with our freshly-made ceviche' and some of Carol's amazing cheesy dip with tart cherry preserves - - sooo good!

Our dinner reservations were at a kewl little beach bar that had a live "band", favors & a glass of
champagne. It was so fun and festive!

While we were eating, people kept pouring in to the restaurant. By 11:00 it was like a wedding party on steroids. The music was blasting, the dance floor was wall-to-wall people, the rest of the restaurant was tightly packed people standing and drinking and we couldn't talk there was so much noise. We finally gave up and decided to head back to the boat.

The bar was way out on the end of Russell Island which was attached to Spanish Wells by a small bridge. It was as if everyone in Spanish Wells showed up for this party. The parking lot was packed with people and the road was lined up on both sides with parked golf carts. Quite the party place!

It was nice to get back to Samba, play some games and have a sane midnight toast.

New Year's Day, we had to wait until late morning so the tide would be high enough to allow us to leave our slip. Then, off to Current Cut for some amazing adventures - - woo hoo!
