The Crossing to Marsh Harbour

Sunday dawned bright and calm with an intense, bright, cherry-colored sunrise that our camera couldn't quite capture. The day turned out to be a perfect day to make the 55 mile crossing to the Abacos island chain. Woo hoo.

We trolled 2 poles the whole way. However, the ocean seemed void of any kind of life. Bummer.
Though we were out of sight of land for most of the day, we encountered a number of freighters, other trawlers & sailboats. We had to alter course for this freighter in order to avoid an unpleasant encounter. Once behind him, we noticed he was emptying his ballast tanks even though he was still some 30 miles from Nassau.
As we neared the cut to enter the Abacos, the clouds looked pretty grumpy. Fortunately, we never did have any rain.
The anchorage at Lynyard Cay was a welcome sight. We dropped the dinghy & went beach combing on the Atlantic side of the island and found quite a bit of sea glass.
Monday we moved 10 miles north to Tilloo Cut. We had heard quite a bit about Tahiti Beach and it was a mile dinghy ride from our anchorage. The main attraction is that at low tide, the beach extends some 1/2 mile into the bay and people like to collect sand dollars & starfish.
The forecast for both the near term & next week when Greg & Sheila Cobb are with us isn't looking so good. We decided to head to our marina on Tuesday morning in order to seek shelter from some high winds and rain. Ughhh.

Marsh Harbour is the hub of the Abacos and a place boaters go for shelter and re-provisioning.
Fortunately, the Conch Inn was able to get us in a few days early. We'll ride out some of these high winds in this nice marina as we await our guests on Saturday.
