6/15/15 Derbyshire to Ruddy Isle

6/15/15 Derbyshire to Ruddy Island
As predicted, today was quite foggy and as the morning wore on, it became more and more like pea soup. We took our time with breakfast and then launched the dinghy to do some exploring to take advantage of our down time.
A soupy morning that got soupier

Sights from our dinghy tour of the bay
This Luna had a pretty tough night!
She looks pretty close to land here!

Amazing tree in the rock
See the picnic table?

After the dinghy tour, Jim dropped Carol off at the boat and headed for shore to do some hiking through the lush forest. Though a bit damp and soupy, the forest was very lush.

Finally, around noon, the fog began to lift so we secured the dinghy and headed to Ruddy Island, only about 10 miles away but considerably more remote than other anchorages we’ve been in. It was also another knuckle biter trip with some skinny and winding passageways.
Can we fit????

Anker Pint rock - - cute
We dropped the hook in the southern branch of Ruddy Island bay and headed off in the dinghy to the portage trail that we hoped would take us over to see Clear Lake.

Seriously???
Clear Lake

Just us - - for miles. Amazzzzing

Our anchorage at Ruddy Island was pristine and beautiful. Except for a little cottage about a mile away, it was just us and this amazing anchorage.

After we got back to the boat, Jim took off in the dinghy to drown some worms. As luck would have it, he tangled with an unexpected 3’ monster. Not expecting any large fish, he didn’t have a net so he tried to land the fish by hand. Each time it got to the dinghy, it took off again. The third time he broke the line – bummer!!!!!

Jim went back to the boat and got a landing net and headed out again, this time he caught a nice 17” small mouth bass and an 18” northern pike! We filleted both fish and cooked some of the bass on the grill for dinner. Yum!
Finally some nice fish!

Even a Pike!

It doesn't get any better than this!
