Sunday, 6/28
Today was rain, as predicted. Lots of rain, all day and all night.
Jim rode to town a couple of times to pick up parts for
projects. Sunday evening, we had an opportunity to attend a “docktail” party. It
was held by the “harbor hosts” here in Peterborough and was a great time. There
were 10 of us who got together on their boat to share stories, appetizers and
drinks. A great way to end an otherwise rainy Sunday.
Monday
Today was nice. The next few won’t be - - again, so we
decided to travel. 7 locks, 4 rivers, 6 lakes and 3 canals later and we ended
up at Campbellford, ON for the night.
The geese put on a parade for us as we passed
Notice the bend in the river on the chart plotter.
A jet skier taking advantage of our wake
Leaving the first lock & into the second
Looking back, you can see how the locks are stacked on top of each other.
Almost all of the locks in this section had a hydroelectric facility attached to them. Twice today we experienced the power of the hydro suction when the current gave us a run for our money as we muscled Samba away from it!
A long way up!
The view from our mooring in Campbellford and
the beautiful downtown clock tower.
Tuesday
Some locks leaked more than
others. This was one of the leakier ones. They make beautiful waterfalls right
behind the boat.
These swans didn't seem to mind the rain
Even in the rain, the lock attendants are smiling and helpful
We’ve seen lots of bike trails and parks created by Rotary
International throughout the Trent-Severn waterway.
Canada Day, like our Independence Day, is a big deal.
Everyone decorates and parties.
This is it. Our final lock. Then, on to Trenton.
