7/18,19/15Brewerton to Sylvan Beach

Saturday - Brewerton
We spent the day Saturday getting Samba ready for her very special guests. While Carol borrowed a car from the marina owners at Ess-Kay to pick up a week's worth of groceries, Jim washed the boat from stem to stern.

Jen, Erick & Hannah, Xander and Hendrix Cavalcanti drove from Carmel, IN via Niagra Falls and met us at our marina around 5:00. Once everything was stowed and everyone had a chance to explore Samba, we settled down for a glass of wine and then a nice dinner of grilled pork chops. Yum.

In honor of Jim’s birthday and Jim & Carol’s 40th anniversary, Carol made some homemade strawberry shortcake. The only problem was that there seemed to be a shortage of whipped cream for Jim’s portion. Bummer.

Sunday - Brewerton to Sylvan Beach
Sunday morning was a spectacular morning. Pleasant temperature, light wind and a perfect morning to enjoy a cup of coffee on the top deck.

Before leaving on the day’s journey, Carol opened her anniversary present from Jim.  A big # 40 - wow!

With a chance of rain in the forecast for the afternoon, we set off around 10:00 to cross Lake Oneida’s 22 miles.

We all had a busy morning getting ready to leave. With such a relaxing ride on Oneida Lake, who could resist a mid-morning nap?

We didn’t know what to expect as we pulled into Sylvan Beach. This was pirate weekend for them and we heard they had boats stacked up all over the place on Saturday evening. By the time we arrived at noon on Sunday, we had plenty of space at the city dock.

A boater had told us about Sylvan Beach's old fashioned amusement park and beach so off we went as soon as lunch was over. What fun we had!

Hannah's first roller coaster ride!

Though a bit intimidating, dad said Hannah did great & loved her first roller coaster ride.

A little ice cream to cool the afternoon
We were surprised at how big and popular the beach was. It was right next to the amusement park and there were close to 100 boats  anchored close to shore. People were everywhere just chilling out on this beautiful Sunday afternoon so we did too.

It was a wonderful afternoon - - until the rain hit. Then, there was a mass exodus of boats and swimmers heading for cover. Fortunately, the 3” rain and flooding that was predicted didn’t hit. PTL!

Hamburgers on the back deck
After the rain quit, Hendrix slipped and had a boo boo. Hannah felt sorry for him and made him a story book, complete with illustrations. What a great big sis!
