7/20 Sylvan Beach to Ilion, NY

Monday, 7/20/15
Today was our first big lock day on the Erie Canal. We travelled 36 miles and hit 4 locks. By the end of the day, Jen and Erick were old hands at it. Slimy old hands. LOL.

Mamaw reading a book with the kiddies

Having fun on Samba

Friendly fisherman letting the kids hold & touch his bass

Hannah showing her levitation powers

Lots of old iron bridges on the Erie Canal

Erick holding the bow in - slimy ropes!

Heading into a lock

The kids watching the turbulence in the lock as we rise

Erick checking the clearance as we
squeaked under a low bridge

Hannah keeping a lookout on the bow for floating logs

We try hard to NOT hit these little floaties!

Many of the locks have nasty, rough walls!

Lunch stop at one of the locks

Crossing a lock gate. Pretty kewl!
Hannah got a chance to drive the boat.

"I had a mule, here name was Sal.
15 miles on the Erie canal..."

Everyone helping with the lock ropes
Hopefully, we can fit under the bridge once we leave the lock

Not so much luck fishing at Ilion, our evening stop.
