8/12/15 Baltimore, MD - Dunns

Tuesday, 8/11/15 - Getting Ready for Tom & Tina
Samba was still salty from our 12 hour trip down the Atlantic from Staten Island so we spent much of the day washing her down inside & out. Right before lunch, we decided to take a break & take a 90 minute trolley tour of Baltimore before provisioning.
Our tour guide was a hoot. He wore
several hats, depending on who he was
impersonating. Here, he's King James of England.

Lots of beautiful, interesting monuments in Baltimore

The tour was a quick, historical overview of the city. Murals
have recently become quite popular all over town.

Now he's an early colonist

Washington's monument
This beautiful church was built from locally cut stone

Wednesday, 8/12/15

Tom & Tina Dunn, good friends from Warsaw, IN took a red eye special and arrived at Samba in downtown Baltimore a little after 8:00 am. After they moved in and had their orientation tour of Samba, we took the bus to Fort McHenry.

Fort McHenry
The statue of Orpheus, Hero of Music &
Poetry, is at Fort McHenry in honor of
the Star Spangled Banner

We had a great tour guide of the Fort
Notice the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the Background

Fife & drum demonstration inside the fort

Following the tour, we enjoyed a number of outstanding
video presentations

This large, woolen Old Glory flag is only
flown on clear weather days.
It requires 14 people to lower & fold it.

A bomb shelter at the fort

Lunch at L.P.Steamers
A couple of locals recommended
Steamers for lunch so we decided to
try it

Not very big, but oh so good!

Even the local kids like Steamer's crabs!

U.S.S. Constellation
The Constellation, which is anchored close to where Samba was moored, is the only remaining Civil War battleship in existence. It saw much activity both in Europe & here during the war.
