10/31/15 Savannah, GA

Dawn on the Savannah River was spectacular!
Saturday, 10/31/15 - Savannah, GA
After Di & Stan Feldman (Jim's sister & bro-in-law) left Friday afternoon, we decided Savannah had so much to see that we would spend another day exploring and are we glad we did! Savannah turned out to be a perfect city to see by bike.

There is quite a history behind the
waving girl

This stairway dated back to 1856!

One of many stone roads.
Kind of tough on bikes, though!

Savannah's city hall was quite beautiful

Lunch was salmon quiche.

1873 St. John's Cathedral
We arrived at St. John the Baptist Cathedral just as afternoon services were done. Great timing to see this awesome building.

The stations of the cross were stunning

On a whim, we entered the downstairs art gallery that was located in the basement of one of the beautiful old (1879) mansions. The manager served us champagne and told us all about their artists and explained the background to each of the paintings and prints. It was quite a fun time.

She let us tour the tiny garden behind the house & then recommended we visit the Andrew Low house a few blocks away. Another great recommendation.

The only remaining hourglass garden in town was in front of
the Andrew Low home

The entrance to the back patio
We had a great tour guide of the home who explained many of the priceless antiques as well as a history of the home & owner. They asked us to refrain from taking pictures inside so Jim tried to be discreet with a few.

After the tour of the Andrew Low house, we had just enough time to visit the Ships of the Sea museum which reportedly had a very nice scrimshaw collection. We rode our bikes to the other side of town to catch this before we headed back to Samba to get ready for dinner at a very special place.

They had 3 full floors of amazing antique model ships
So, which one is the ship's figure head???

Dinner at the old 17Hundred90  Inn was amazing. Though it is supposedly haunted by several ghosts, we didn't see anything during our Halloween dinner.

After dinner, the walk back to the boat through downtown Savannah was certainly interesting. Here, it seems that everyone likes to dress up and enjoy the bar crawl scene. Fortunately, it was all tame and safe.
