The Pirates Gathering
As luck would have it, this weekend was the annual pirates gathering in St. Augustine. Fortunately, the main event site was close to the fort so we, of course, had to visit! Everyone loves to dress like a pirate and it was fun looking at all their finery.

After a quick pass through the festival, we visited the historic district of the city and returned after lunch to watch the pirate battle.

Young and old had fun

Carol was accosted by a pirate on the way out. However, Jim challenged
him to a duel at 20 paces & won her back.

The churches here are all beautiful & were funded by Flagler.

Sunday, 11/08/15
Sunday morning, Carol's brother, Stan & his wife, Janice picked us up for a segway tour of St. Augustine. The segways turned out to be lots of fun, that is, once we learned how to ride them!
We graduated from segway school when we could let go
of the handle and not fall off!!

We had a wonderful guide who loved St. Augustine & its rich history
He threatened us with dire consequences if we lost control
& drove our segways into the lake!

Every corner had interesting history

Can you see the cannonball still embedded in the wall?
Jim had trouble getting this without falling off the segway. LOL
Some drink the water here. Some pee here. We opted to not drink it!

How cool is this?

These old pirate chains were used to keep pirate ships out of the city.
They raised them at night & they tore the ships up who tried to sneak in.

Enjoying a walk through the historic city

Mid afternoon, the rains came so we headed back to Samba while Stan & Janice left for home.

Jim's niece, Chelsea and her hubby Danny Conard & little Lochlan came over for dinner Sunday evening. We hadn't seen them for quite a while so we had a wonderful time!
