The goal was to spend the night at the end of Whale Cay in order to visit an abandoned lighthouse and do some snorkeling.
As soon as the anchor was down, it was apparent we would NOT spend the night as the rolling swells were really awful. However, since we had come this far, we dropped the dinghy & headed ashore to explore.
As we approached the beach in the dinghy, Kim jumped out & pulled us the rest of the way in. Mush, Kim, Mush!
There were quite a few unusual lizards greeting us on the island.
| Notice the sign in the background. We only trespassed a little! |
The old lighthouse was definitely abandoned. Though pretty rough looking, the stairs to the top held us OK.
Once finished with the lighthouse exploration, we returned to Samba & headed back up the coast to another anchorage about an hour away. This was just off of Little Whale Cay. Fortunately, it was quite lovely and peaceful.
While Jim was checking the anchor, Kim & Kevin decided to check out the water. with their masks & snorkels.
The island had a beautiful beach and an old, overgrown "road" that we explored for a little way.
There was a pretty interesting creature that had attached itself to a shell. Kevin just about gave it a bite but then had second thoughts.
Sundowners & chicken on the grill were the order of the evening. Ahhhhh!
