Hawks Nest & Emerald Bay

While waiting on the weather to calm down, we rode bikes in the area & found a sort of a sandy pine needle path that ended up at the end of the air strip. We found several little shelters with wonderful views of the ocean that were calling our names.

Needless to say, we spent our last afternoon here chillin' & readin'. Though we were here much of the afternoon, there wasn't a soul around. Ahhhh, what bliss!
Here are a couple of videos that show the truly remarkable waters here.
Here's a nice view of the small creek we traveled up to get to the marina.
The marina is to the right. The airstrip & little resort are to the left.

Later that night, we had quite the shark show. A fisherman took some scraps down to the creek and the sharks went ballistic. This is the most we've ever seen and were definitely the most agressive we've seen!

Ahhhh, but all good things must come to an end. Today was the only day that any kind of ocean travel would be possible for perhaps a couple of weeks so we headed for Emerald Bay Marina over on Great Exuma, close to 40 miles away. You can see where we are if you click on the map tab on our blog home page.

Fortunately, as predicted, the winds were down and the seas were calm. Thank you Lord!
As we approached the marina entrance, we noticed that the swells were a bit exciting. Not much room for error here, that's for sure!

Jim goosed the engines and  punched through the mess. Fortunately, it was calm once we muscled the boat through the nasty entrance!

This will be our last blog entry for a while. We are headed home for a month or so and then will resume our adventures with Samba. Thanks for hanging in there with us!
Fair winds & following seas,
Jim & Carol
