Pau Pau Bay Anchorage

The forecast for Monday was for light and variable winds, a perfect day to enjoy a quiet little spot that most cruisers don't appear to visit very much. Those who do rave about it. More on that in a bit.

Enroute to Pau Pau, we passed an area that has been burning out of control for several days.

Our anchorage was over pure white sand & surrounded by a number of small islands that cried out to be explored. It was quite stunning and we had it all to ourselves -- what a beautiful evening we had!

After lunch, we dropped the dinghy & headed around the point to the town "dock" at Palmetto Point. The dock was no longer useable so we beached the dinghy.

This is the view from the beach, looking back at the islands we were anchored behind.

The sign going into this small cemetery overlooking the bay is our all-time favorite! We should have a sign like this at every cemetery. It is such an important message!

The Justice of the Peace office was near the beach and seemed to be a catch-all for official stuff -- insurance, wills, affidavits, immigration, passport applications, residence applications, sales agreements, civil marriages.

We stopped in to check out their little library where the librarian was helping her young niece with some schoolwork. Their kids still can only go to school 2 days a week for fear of COVID. The library had just acquired these nice computers in December.

Many of their signs here, including street signs are hand painted which adds to the quaint, friendly atmosphere.

This gentleman was doing his part to beautify his village. He was raking the leaves from the edge of the street and proud of how it looked.

A number of the homes and rental units here were nicely painted.

The heart of the "business district" was just a cross-road on the highway. There was a tiny jerk restaurant, a small boutique and this store front that looked like it was a place that made costumes for Bahamas junkanoo festival groups. This mask was hanging on their door.

On the way back to the boat, we took a detour around one of the islands to see if there might be some snorkeling opportunities. It looked pretty good.

We headed back to the boat to pick up our snorkel gear & returned to check out this beautiful water.

We were surprised at how many angelfish there were here. We think they are some of the most beautiful of the fish. However, they are really timid and skittish so it's hard to get a picture of them.

Tomorrow, the wind picks up quite a bit and changes direction to where we need to find a different anchorage for protection. We'll let you know where we end up.
