Less than an hour after leaving Marsh Harbour, we anchored in the lee of Hopetown/Elbow Cay. You can see the Hopetown lighthouse just in front of us. They are in the process of restoring it.
Hopetown is a cute little village built around a well-protected harbor. This is a view of the lighthouse as we entered the Hopetown cut.Somehow, you don't expect this kind of greeting as enter a tropical, Bahamian harbor. LOL.We first checked out the little resort & marina. Very cute and clean. Notice the underwater seats around the bar.The church's backyard offered a stunning view of the Atlantic. What a great place for a sunrise service! This is the main street! Golf carts are the primary mode of transportation here. The forecast is calling for some potentially nasty weather coming our way Thursday night. Rain & 30 to 35 knot winds - - ughhh! Once the rain moves on, the wind is projected to remain high until Sunday so we have to be judicious in our choice of anchorages and routes.Thursday morning, in advance of the coming weather, we headed 10 miles down the island chain to an anchorage near Tilloo Cut. It looks like a good place to hunker down for the night.
Once anchored, we dropped the dinghy & thought we'd run a couple of miles over to "Tahiti Beach" to see what that looks like. However, once clear of our anchorage's protection, the waves and wind were already pretty high. Rather than fight the weather, we abandoned any thoughts of exploring or snorkeling for today. Bummer.
