Alabaster Bay

The 20 mile trip from the Glass Window to beautiful Alabaster Bay was delightful and relaxing. Since we planned to take a long hike to the other side of the island & wouldn't return until low tide, we had to leave the dingy quite far from shore for reasons that will be apparent shortly.

We hiked maybe 1.5 miles to the entrance of the old abandoned US Navy base. Though the old guard shack is still there, mother nature is certainly having her way with the base!
This is without question, the loveliest beach in the Bahamas. Not a sole anywhere and miles of stunning pink sand. What an amazing place to visit!
After a nice walk, we had lunch & then went for a swim.
When we returned to Alabaster Bay, the tide had definitely gone out so it was a good thing we anchored the dinghy as far out as we did.
Jim & John dropped the gals off at Samba & headed out to try some spear fishing. Sadly, though there were a lot of reef fish, they didn't find anything worth shooting. There were lots of beautiful angelfish & blue tangs - nice to look at, not so nice to eat. Once they rounded the point, the water became pretty cloudy - it was still nice to be out snorkeling though.
Tomorrow we head to Rock Sound to visit the Ocean Hole and the Spider Cave. Should be interesting!
