Leaving on June 1 just wasn't meant to be. The guy was waaay behind in his work on our new stove, oven & propane/dockbox & we had torrential rain and wind. The wind was literally blowing Lake Erie right up the Vermillion River.

This sequence of shots shows how quickly the river was rising! Before we took the first shot with Carol in it, the river had already risen about 2 to 3 feet. Fortunately, Jim had tied our dock step down and had lengthened Samba's lines so we could float up.

We spent Monday, 6/01 finishing up the propane locker & stove. Also, we were treated to an amazing parade of large logs and trees that went rumbling down the river next to the boat. The concern was snagging some of these oversize floaties with our props once we were underway!
Jim finally kicked our installer off the boat around 7:00 pm and made him give us the list of all of the unfinished items so Jim could finish them later. One of the parts for the stove didn't work so we had him overnight the part to our intended marina in Detroit for us to pick up and install.
Tuesday dawned bright and clear and cold. We headed out at 6:45 am and arrived in Detroit at 3:00 pm - almost 100 miles. Much of the trip on Lake Erie was with 2 to 3 foot waves but not too bad for Samba. The trip up the Detroit River was beautiful.
