| Our first Metro ride was deserted |
| The Staten Island Ferry had a few more people |
| The storm clouds were already gathering |
| Then came the subway! |
On our way to the observatory at
1 World Trade Center. Notice how tall it is! |
What a great exhibit this was. Be sure to
go if you are in New York City. |
The tour began in the bedrock below the
trade center! |
The Statue of Liberty was
barely visible in the haze & rain |
| Carol helped out with the multi-media presentation |
The Empire State Building quickly
disappeared in the storm |
The 9-1-1 memorial fountain was moving.
The water falls represented the tears flowing down into
the place the towers once stood. |
| Each memorial is the exact footprint of one of the towers |
After the 911 memorial, we took the subway to Times Square
& tried to find shelter under some construction overhangs |
Though the rain was torrential, Times Square
was still alive & overwhelming |
Friday, 7/31/15
After the heavy rain on Thursday, Friday dawned bright and clear so off we went to the train station for a visit to the Statue of Liberty.
Hoofing it the 6 blocks from
our marina to the
Staten Island Railroad |
| Get it? |
| A nice morning to wait on the train |
| Cover Story performing in the ferry building commons |
| The ferry trip to NYC was clear & beautiful |
| A fireboat strutting her stuff |
The "Teardrop" memorial was a gift from
Russia. It sits across the harbor, facing
the 911 memorial. |
| Taking the statue ferry over to the island |
| A sea of hands & phones. LOL |
